Ruth E. Nemire, PharmD, EdD, FCCP, FNAP, CRQM
Dean, College of Pharmacy
Dr. Ruth E. Nemire’s path to becoming a pharmacist started with volunteer work at a nursing home during high school. She determined when she grew up, she would know what medications would do, particularly if she ever needed to take them. She went on to complete her pharmacy education graduating from Ohio Northern University, College of Pharmacy (BSPh) and with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from The University of Toledo in Ohio. Her training then continued with a post-doctoral fellowship in Neurology at the University of Miami, Miami Florida.
Her knowledge about drug therapies has established her strong commitment to patient care as a practicing pharmacist. She has also been instrumental in health sciences education and has obtained a Doctorate in Education (EdD) form Nova Southeastern University with an emphasis in Higher Education Leadership.
Throughout her career, Dr. Nemire has had numerous contributions and achievements in research. Her focus has included areas of education and neurology with specific accomplishments in epilepsy research. In 1996, Dr. Nemire created and led the Center for Neurology Studies (CNS) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. At CNS, she worked on early clinical research trials evaluating treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, migraine, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis. Her educational research has focused on innovative practices that incorporate technology as a tool to improve learning. While Dr. Nemire is passionate about taking care of patients and conducting research, she is not just a scientist. Early on, she was drawn to the stage in New York. In pharmacy school, she was actively involved as a theatre major. The knowledge and skills she gained from her liberal arts courses helped her be a better communicator, a creative and adaptable leader, and a team player. She has incorporated her knowledge and skills from different areas of education and training into her career choices and her leadership roles in health professional education.
As Dean of Larkin University’s College of Pharmacy, Dr. Nemire continues her passion as a pharmacy educator. She has previously served as a professor and administrator in both colleges of pharmacy and medicine. During her career, she was the Founding Dean for Fairleigh Dickinson School of Pharmacy in New Jersey and the Associate Dean during the founding of Touro College of Pharmacy in New York. She worked diligently on both institution’s successful accreditation through ACPE. Dr. Nemire has also served as a Senior Vice President for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).
Currently, Dr. Nemire looks forward to advancing and supporting the mission and vision of Larkin University. She strongly supports the creation of new educational opportunities and the access to pharmacy education for a new generation of students. Larkin University challenges the traditional model of university level education, and Dr. Nemire recognizes that we need to rethink how we educate Health Professionals. Traditional Universities will survive and thrive, but there are those individuals who need to take a different path. We are here to serve those individuals.
Life’s opportunities have given Dr. Nemire a lot of adventures. She has lived in multiple states during her educational and professional career. Most recently, Dr. Nemire had settled here in South Florida as she worked to challenge the K-12 education system to incorporate knowledge of health and wellness more universally into its educational framework. Dr. Nemire looks forward to this career chapter in helping to shape Larkin University College of Pharmacy in its foundational years. She knows this is an exciting time for both the profession of pharmacy and Larkin University, and she is honored to continue to contribute to pharmacy education.
